Beyonce Knowles has postponed an upcoming concert in Malaysia after Islamic conservatives deemed her tour detrimental to the cultivation of morals in young people.
The show, originally scheduled for October 25 in Kuala Lumpur, "has been postponed to a future date to be announced shortly," Malaysian entertainment company Marctensia said in a statement, reports the Associated Press.
The I AM...Sasha Fierce tour features the "Bootylicious" crooner gyrating in several bedazzled leotards. The outfits violate Malaysian law, which requires female artists to cover up from the shoulders to knees, with no cleavage showing.
A Marctensia representative declined to say whether the decision was prompted by criticism from the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), the country's largest opposition group. The party called for the concert to be canceled because of its danger to Malaysia's youths.
"We are not against entertainment, but it's the way she performs.... It will erode the moral values of our young people," PAS youth chief Nasruddin Hassan Tantawi told the Associated Foreign Press.
Knowles previously canceled a planned performance in Malaysia in 2007 following protest threats by the opposition Islamic party. At the time, her talent agency said the show was called off due to a scheduling conflict.
