The United Kingdom is getting serious about encouraging gay tourism -- the nation's first LGBT travel office opened Thursday in London.

Located in the West End off Leicester Square, the office (called KU, which is U.K. transposed) will provide LGBT travelers with tips on what to do and where to stay in Britain's capital.

"We want to show that London's exciting LGBT life is the best in the world," the center's director, Shaun Newport, told the Daily Mail. "We want to show off what our city has to offer to local, national, and international visitors as well as to Londoners old and new."

London will host WorldPride in 2012 as well as the Olympics.
