Shades of AMC's watercooler hit series Mad Men, Emmy Award-winners Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth are set to star in Promises, Promises,
a revival of the 1968 Broadway musical about extramarital romance set
against the backdrop of a Manhattan insurance firm. The musical
is based on the 1960 Academy Award-winning film The Apartment, directed by Billy Wilder and starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine in now-iconic performances.
Promises, Promises
features a book by Neil Simon and a score by Burt Bacharach and Hal
David. The original production was nominated for eight Tony Awards,
winning two, and is perhaps best known for introducing the standard
"I'll Never Fall in Love Again."
Previews will begin at New
York's Broadway Theater on March 28, 2010, with an opening night
scheduled for April 25. Among the producers for the musical's first
Broadway revival are Craig Zadan, Neil Meron, and Candy Spelling. Tony
and Emmy winner Rob Ashford will make his Broadway
directorial debut and choreograph.
