On the heels of Tuesday night's loss in Maine, gay activist David
Mixner called for a halt on donations to liberal politicians who ask
gays and lesbians to endure delays on their equality time and time again.
And he didn't stop there.
On Michelangelo Signorile's radio show the following day, he said donations to the Human Rights Campaign also need to stop if they continue to let the Obama administration get away with not addressing issues like Question 1, the ballot measure that stripped Maine of marriage equality.
No more dinner speeches, he said.
But is Mixner's plea catching on?
The Associated Press ran an article Wednesday in which gay organizers placed the blame on Obama for the loss in Maine. The New York Times said Tuesday's loss will likely bring about a "change in tactics" from gay organizers moving forward.
Neither article mentioned money.
The Advocate will continue to follow this story and update Advocate.com as gay activists and leaders step forward to say what they intend to do with their contributions in 2010.
