The American Family Association has temporarily suspended its fight against gay interests to do battle against what it sees as the nation's greatest threat: the war against Christmas.

The AFA lifted its boycott of Gap Inc., after the company began airing Old Navy commercials that offered up a "Merry Christmas" message. The ads previously mentioned "Happy Holidays" and "Go Solstice."

The AFA also targeted Sears and Lowe's, and the right-wing group believes the two retail corporations changed their marketing campaigns because of its pressure. Next up on AFA's radar are Best Buy and Dick's Sporting Goods. The group has sent certified letter to their corporate offices, urging them to include "Christmas" in their seasonal advertising.

"We're in this fight because we are disturbed by the increasing secularization of our culture in general and Christmas in particular," AFA president Tim Wildmon said in a release. "We're gratified that Gap has responed to the thousands of phone calls, emails, and petitions from Americans who share our concerns. We hope to engage Gap in dialogue over this next year, so we can move them from our 'Naughy' category into our 'Nice' category, just like we did with Sears and Lowe's."
