Members of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Gay-Straight Alliance petitioned the university's board of regents Monday to add sexual orientation to the school's nondiscrimination policy.
According to the Associated Press, group members made a similar request last June, but the board never scheduled the issue for discussion.
Currently, the university's policy for both employees and students protects against discrimination based on race and religion.
The board of regents will meet in February.
