An upcoming Bollywood movie will feature what is being hailed as the Indian film industry's first gay love scene.
I Am Omar, one of four short stories that make up the film I Am, focuses on the police harassment of male sex workers under Article 377, the colonial-era ban on gay sex.
The film's director, Onir, is proud of the work done by Rahul Bose and Arjun Mathur, the actors who play the gay couple.
"Luckily none of my actors had any inhibitions. Rahul and Arjun did the scene which goes much beyond anything seen in Indian cinema," said Onir, according to IndiaTimes.com. "They behaved like thorough professionals."
While the love scene has been filmed, it remains uncertain if India's board of censors will approve I Am Omar for release with the scene intact.
Indian director Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, Amelia) praised the film when she saw it at a film festival in New York, saying she found it a moving experience.
