The Philadelphia Inquirer checks in with a profile of Steven Goldstein, the outspoken, intense, and widely respected leader of Garden State Equality, the group now at the forefront of the fight for same-sex marriage rights in New Jersey.

Goldstein and his organization have made daily headlines as the New Jersey state legislature considers a marriage equality bill in the lame-duck session before outgoing governor Jon Corzine steps down on January 19. Currently, the bill is awaiting a hearing in the assembly judiciary committee after narrowly passing the senate judiciary committee last Monday by a 7-6 vote.

Much of the progress is thanks to Goldstein, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

"A former Democratic political aide, producer for Oprah Winfrey and television news, and aspiring rabbi, he has cast himself as a hard-edged fighter and used the skills from his various jobs -- storytelling, delivering messages, lobbying -- to help bring the same-sex marriage movement as far as that senate judiciary committee hearing last week," reports the Inquirer.
