Unusual content on the campaign website for U.S. senator Jim DeMint, the South Carolina Republican who recently said he found the idea of a gay president "immoral," raised questions about whether the site was hacked.
According to the website Palmetto Scoop on Friday morning, "The address www.JimDeMint.com now brings up a page that says 'Promotions' and lists sweepstakes for things like a 'Hot Air Balloon Ride For Two,' or a 'featured role in the LindaSolarSun blog,' or a 'watch worn by the President."
The Palmetto Scoop later received updates denying that the site, which at one point last year connected to a gay satire video, had been hacked. The webmaster blamed the error on traffic.
DeMint, the junior senator from South Carolina, recently discussed the prospect of a gay president with Bloomberg columnist Al Hunt.
"It would be bothersome to me just personally because I consider it immoral," said DeMint.
