Modern Family, Glee, Lady Gaga, and Tom Ford's A Single Man are among the many nominees up for GLAAD Media Awards, which will be handed out in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco this spring.

Now in their 21st year, the GLAAD Media Awards honor "media for outstanding images of the LGBT community" in categories honoring film, television, music, print and broadcast journalism and online video, among others.

A Single Man will compete for Outstanding Film -- Wide Release opposite Everybody's Fine; I Love You, Man; Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' By Sapphire; and Taking Woodstock. Nominated in the Outstanding Drama Series category, are Brothers & Sisters, Grey's Anatomy, Mad Men, Skins, and True Blood.

In the Outstanding Film - Limited Release category, the pre-Twilight gay Salvador Dali drama Little Ashes will face off against Phoebe in Wonderland, The Country Teacher, The Secrets and Casi Divas.

Fox favorite Glee is up against Beautiful People, Greek, Modern Family, and United States of Tara for Outstanding Comedy.

In the Outstanding Music Artist category, Lady Gaga will compete against Gossip, Brandi Carlile, Adam Lambert, and Otep.

"Words and images matter," GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios said in a statement. "With these awards, we seek to recognize news coverage and entertainment programming that go beyond stock stereotypes with LGBT storylines that more fully reflect the challenges gay and transgender people face and the aspirations we hold for ourselves and our families."

The Advocate has been nominated along with Newsweek, Entertainment Weekly, The Nation, and People for Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage. A video piece for Advocate.com by contributor Derrick Shore about the AIDS/LifeCycle was nominated in the Outstanding Digital Journalism -- Multimedia category, along with pieces by Newsweek.com, and AARP.com.
