The winner of the first leg of the Giro d'Italia, a premier European bicycle race, should be kissed by gay men, not women as usual, says a left-wing party in Amsterdam.
According to the Associated Press, members of the Green Left Party are proposing the idea, arguing that one rider in 10 is gay.
While the idea is gaining support in the city, the television station that airs the ceremony says it would prefer to have women on the stage with the winner.
Two people will be selected for the kissing gig at a beauty pageant on March 5. The AP reports that three contestants are gay men.
