National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Action Fund executive director Rea Carey joined progressive leaders in Washington, D.C. Tuesday, who protested the annual conference of the nation's health insurance lobbying group and called for urgent health insurance reform.

Health Care for America Now, a coalition of more than 50 labor, religious, and organization leaders, teamed with survivors of health insurance industry abuse to protest American's Health Insurance Plans, the lobbying group, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. According to its news release, the Task Force was the only LGBT rights group to participate in the event.

"Health care reform is a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issue," said Carey. "The lack of adequate, affordable health care is hurting tens of millions of people and their families all across this country, including our families."
