Evan Rachel Wood Cast in Mildred Pierce

Evan Rachel Wood will play Veda, one of the most detestable screen characters of all time, in HBO's upcoming remake of Mildred Pierce. Guy Pearce has also been announced to join the already-cast Kate Winslet, who will portray the title character, a struggling Depression-era waitress, for gay director Todd Haynes's five-hour adaptation of the 1941 novel by James M. Cain that became a 1945 film which won Joan Crawford her only Oscar and is still a favorite among gay viewers.
