A new poll from the Public Policy Institute of California poll finds that 50% of respondents in the state support marriage equality, the highest percentage ever recorded in a PPIC poll.

"According to the Public Policy Institute of California poll, 50% of respondents support gay marriage and 45% oppose it," reports the Los Angeles Times. "The PPIC said it marks the highest level of support for gay marriage their polls have recorded in California."

The poll contacted 2,002 California adults by phone from March 9 to 16. It has a 2% margin of error.
