Hundreds Rally Against Hate in Asheville, N.C.
Hundreds of protesters gathered Wednesday in Asheville, N.C., in response to reported attacks on LGBT people.
"This
is about community," Sam Soper, one of the "We Are Not Bashful" event
organizers, told the crowd. "This isn't about being queer or straight.
This is about taking a stand against violence."
More than 200 people marched single file on a route that followed the locations of the alleged attacks, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported.
According to fliers for the event, as many as five attacks happened recently. Soper said one of the victims was too frightened to report the attack to the police.
"It's
shocking to hear that in such a progressive community that things like
that are still happening," organizer Amy Orenchuk said.
