Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black talks to Gay.com about his plans for Harvey Milk Day this Saturday: He says he's taking a page from Harvey's book and helping Equality California canvass neighborhoods where residents predominantly voted yes on Proposition 8.

"You see Harvey doing that in the documentary The Times of Harvey Milk," Black says. "In the Bay Area he used to go into neighborhoods that were not favorable to equality, and [in the film] you can watch the faces of the people who are meeting gay and lesbian people for the first time. I think a lot of them were horrified, but it created change. We're hoping to have that same reaction."

Black actively campaigned for a Harvey Milk Day in California, lending support to state senator Mark Leno, who had been pushing a bill to establish the day before Milk hit theaters.
