Retired Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O'Connor spoke with ABC's Good Morning America and said that she believes Elena Kagan will be confirmed, but she also thinks any nominee should anticipate a "difficult, unpleasant experience."

GMA cohost George Stephanopoulos asked O'Connor whether she thought Kagan would be confirmed.

"I would think so," said O'Connor, the first woman to hold a seat on the high court. "She seems to be very well qualified academically."

Stephanopoulos also asked O'Connor about the controversial new immigration law in her home state of Arizona, but the retired justice refused to say whether she thought the law was constitutional. She did, however, appear to express concern over the measure.

"I'm not going to weigh in on that," said O'Connor. "I'm sure sections of it will be tested."
