A Newsweek reporter was sentenced to 13.5 years in prison and
74 lashings in Iran for several charges, including allowing a photo to
be posted on his Facebook page featuring Iranian president Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad appearing to kiss another man on the lips.
Reporter Maziar Bahari had just finished a 118-day sentence in jail for his coverage of protests following the Iranian elections. However, he was recently sentenced again to 13 years and 74 lashings for his protest coverage. The photo of Ahmadinejad, which shows him kissing another man, cost him an additional six months in prison, according to CNN host and Newsweek editor Fareed Zakaria. Bahari could not convince authorities that he did not post the photo on Facebook.
