A Louisville, Ky., gay couple have been implicated in the death of a third man, who police believe was their sexual partner.

NBC Chicago reports that Jeffrey Mundt and Joseph Banis, both 38, were carrying on an affair with a third man. Police believe Mundt and Banis decided to rob the man late last year but that he somehow wound up dead.

Suspicions about Mundt and Banis arose in April when the couple traveled to Chicago. Mundt handed a hotel doorman a suspicious $100 bill that appeared to be counterfeit. After the doorman notified hotel management, police were called and discovered phony money, knives, guns, and GHB in the men's hotel room. Both men were arrested and held on bail but were later released.

Back in Louisville, things began to unravel further when the men got into an argument at their home. Mundt called police claiming Banis was trying to kill him. When police arrived and questioned Banis, he told them there was a body buried under their basement. The police investigated and found the body of a man, stabbed and shot, inside a plastic tub four feet underground.

The men are being charged with murder, and the victim's name has not yet been released.
