Gay Legislator Attends White House Father's Day
A gay legislator was on the guest list at President Obama's Father's Day mentoring barbecue on Monday, according to The Baltimore Sun.
Maryland state senator Richard S. Madeleno Jr. was one of many honored fathers attending the barbecue, where leaders from various fields enjoyed dinner and a speech from the president. The gathering is the second of its type since President Obama has been in office.
Madeleno is the father of two adopted children, whom he raises with his partner. He is the first openly gay person in the Maryland senate.
President Obama recently included gay fathers in a proclamation he issued Father's Day.
