Two Michigan gay rights groups will endorse the incumbent Ann Arbor mayor instead of an openly lesbian candidate in the upcoming mayoral election.

The Michigan Democratic Party's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Allies Caucus and Lesbians Opposing Lesko will support John Hieftje for mayor instead of Patricia Lesko.

Both groups believe Hieftje shows strong support for LGBT causes and is an honest politician, according to AnnArbor.com.

Critics questioned Lesko's integrity after she was caught spreading lies about Hieftje's administration on the campaign trail. Lesko also started a blog, A2Politico.com, on which she pretended to be a person named Sam Rosenthal and compared Hieftje to Satan.

Many Lesko supporters jumped shipped after she confessed she was behind the blog and its controversial content.

Lesko alleges the members of the LGBTA Caucus promised their endorsement but changed their minds. Both Hieftje and the caucus deny those charges. Phil Volk, chairman of the caucus, claims he told Lesko he would support her but never promised the endorsement of the full caucus.
