Activist Peter Tatchell to Receive Honorary Doctorate

Longtime human rights activist Peter Tatchell will receive an honorary doctoral degree from Sussex University for his decades of advocacy work, Pink News reports.

Tatchell's 43 years of activism has often focused on gays and lesbians brutalized by their own governments throughout the world.

"I was hesitant about accepting this honor," Tatchell said in a statement. "After all, my contribution to human rights is very modest. I am a long way from being a brave and effective campaigner. Many others are much more deserving than me."
