Amaechi Claims U.K. Gay Bar Racist

John Amaechi, the former NBA basketball player who came out in 2007, claims a bar in Manchester, England, wouldn't let him in because he's black.

On Friday a doorman at Crunch told Amaechi he was "big, black, and could be trouble," according to the 39-year-old former athlete, who now operates a motivational speaker business in Manchester. The bar claims the incident did not involve racism or bigotry.

"I want an explanation of what happened -- real true explanation -- and an apology, and they have not in any way been forthcoming with that," Amaechi told the BBC.
