Katie Miller is settling into her new life at Yale University as a member of the women's rugby team, just months after she came out as a gay cadet at prominent military academy West Point, subsequently deciding to leave the school due to the military's ban on open service by gay personnel.

ESPN profiles the college junior, whose athletic abilities ranked her at the top of her class at the academy. But Miller says keeping her sexuality a secret for two years was so difficult that she could not remain at West Point any longer.

"I didn't want to become a proficient liar," she said.

AYale Daily Newsarticle from earlier this month reports that Yale's recent rugby game against West Point left some team members feeling slightly hesitant. According to the report, the game went well, and the West Point players were "respectful," but one person driving by Miller on the West Point campus shouted, "Go back to Yale," and some cadets supposedly told the academy's rugby players to "take Katie Miller out."
