Two leaders of the nonprofit behind San Francisco's Gay Pride announced their resignations this week due to financial and operational complications clouding the organization.
Executive director Amy Andre and board president Mikayla Connell stepped down this week after it was found that 20 nonprofit groups hired to operate beverage booths at this year's event in June are owed a collective $46,000, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Andre said the money will be repaid, even as the organization must also deal with a $99,000 operating debt.
The lapse in payments was due to a misunderstanding in payment responsibilities for equipment like booths and portable bathrooms, the costs of which were absorbed by the smaller nonprofit organizations, the Chronicle reports.
According to the report, Connell told friends she was stepping down from her volunteer position, as the financial fiasco forced her to take time away from her day job.
City and county supervisors Bevan Dufty and David Campos have both stepped in to help the organization recover.
