Dan Choi Shoots His Mouth Off

The Village Voice profiles "Bad Lieutenant" Dan Choi, delivering some juicy bits he seems eager to tell about his personal life, if only someone would ask.

Steven Thrasher writes about Choi's transformation from the "buttoned down" spokesman who first appeared on The Rachel Maddow Show last year to a maverick who angers right and left, and people in between.

"In a movement awash with political correctness, Choi decidedly isn't," writes Thrasher. "He is now speaking out without being asked, sometimes even angering people in his own camp. Rare among gay-rights activists in the national spotlight, Choi mixes an irrepressible sense of humor into his growing militancy."

That lack of political correctness includes willingness to speak freely about his own "sexual liberation" and the related problem of being booted from Grindr four times, and name-calling toward Senate majority leader Harry Reid that is apt to raise eyebrows among some feminists.

"'Harry Reid is a pussy,' Choi angrily said after the failed vote in the Senate last month, vowing to speak out about the Democratic leader, 'and he'll be bleeding once a month,'" writes Thrasher.
