The Dilemma star Vince Vaughn told a radio show host he's glad director Ron Howard has refused to remove the "electric cars are gay" joke from the film.

The joke was removed from a trailer for the film after the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation expressed concern, but Howard says he's keeping the joke in the movie because it's something Vaughn's character would say.

"I'm glad to hear it's staying the movie," Vaughn told Q100's Bert Radio Show on Wednesday. "It wasn't a derogatory term ... We clarified within the joke [that it was] not 'homosexual-gay' but, you know, your parents are chaperoning a dance."

When asked about the joke, Howard told the Los Angeles Times: "It is a slight moment in 'The Dilemma' meant to demonstrate an aspect of our lead character's personality, and we never expected it to represent our intentions or the point of view of the movie or those of us who made it."
