The Gibraltar supreme court is considering whether to lower the age of consent for male homosexual sex from 18 to 16, the age currently allowed for heterosexuals and lesbians in the British territory.

Pink News reports that the Gibraltar government is fighting any change in the age of consent law for gay men. In court documents officials argued that "widening the range of sexual practices which can be committed with young people puts even more pressure on them to be sexually active, and there is no doubt that anal sex carries greater health risks than heterosexual intercourse."

Anal sex remains illegal in Gilbraltar, regardless of sexual orientation.
