The conservative Christian leaders behind an app to promote the antigay Manhattan Declaration blasted Apple for removing the app on the grounds that it was offensive.

Last week, Apple discontinued the app for the Manhattan Declaration, a document that calls for opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage, from its iTunes and iPhone stores. Gay bloggers had led an outcry against the app.

According to CNN, "Chuck Colson, a former aide to President Richard Nixon turned evangelical leader, said Wednesday that he was disappointed in the decision and because Apple had declined to respond to his requests for an explanation."

Colson and two other Declaration letters sent a letter to Apple CEO Steve Jobs on Monday to ask that the app be reinstated. A spokeswoman for Apple had no further comment for CNN.
