Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took a moderator to task during a "townterview" Thursday in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, for asking which designers' clothing she likes to wear.
The Daily Intel reports that after a number of serious questions at the panel with students and young professionals, the moderator, whose gender was not clear from the transcript, decided to take a lighter approach and ask questions that would "touch some personality of Hillary Clinton."
Asked which designers she prefers, Secretary Clinton responded by saying, "Would you ever ask a man that question?" to audience applause.
Moreover, the Daily Intel reports that Secretary Clinton had just moments before advised a young female lawyer about how to deal with sexism during the townterview
According to the transcript, Clinton said, "It requires, for a woman, usually in today's world still, an extra amount of effort because I think it's -- the fact that women are still sometimes judged more critically. If you are in the courtroom or you are presenting a case, it still is a fact --and this is not just in Kyrgyzstan, this is everywhere -- that when a man walks into a courtroom it's rare for someone to say, 'Oh, look what he is wearing."' [Laughter] But if you walk into a courtroom, or any young woman walks into a courtroom, people are going to notice. And that will be an additional requirement that you have to meet."
On Friday, Clinton announced that her service as secretary of State would be her "last public position," putting to rest persistent rumors of another presidential run. She said that she planned to turn to advocacy work on behalf of the world's women and children.
