The husband of boxing star Christy Martin will face a judge Wednesday afternoon on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for allegedly attacking his wife after she told him she was leaving him for a woman.

James Martin, 67, filed a motion to post bond because he is in poor health, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Assistant state attorney Ryan Vescio is fighting James Martin's request to be released on bond because "the defendant not [only] used multiple deadly weapons in an ambush-style attack [on] the victim, which left her for dead, but admitted to stalking the victim to Daytona Beach the day before, and then after the attack eluded law enforcement for a week."

The attack happened in Christy Martin's Apopka, Fla., home November 23. She claims her husband stabbed and attempted to shoot her, but she was able to get away and flag down help.

Christy Martin is being represented by celebrity attorney Gloria Allred, who will hold a post-hearing press conference about the case. In a statement issued Wednesday morning, Allred would not confirm the validity of allegations that the dispute broke out because Christy Martin planned to leave her husband for another woman.
