Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin sparked widespread speculation Monday evening when she retweeted an apparent pro-gay message by conservative pundit Tammy Bruce.

The Huffington Post reports that Palin retweeted a comment from Bruce about the "hypocrisy" of antigay actions in light of the Navy video scandal on the USS Enterprise.

"But this hypocrisy is just truly too much," tweeted Bruce, who is a lesbian. "Enuf already -- the more someone complains about the homos the more we should look under their bed," she said regarding the dismissal of U.S. Navy Captain Owen Honors.

Gawker was the first to report that Palin retweeted the message.

Last February, Palin said "not right now" when asked about "don't ask, don't tell" repeal, and her record as governor of Alaska included an attempt to hold a nonbinding statewide referendum for a constitutional amendment that would remove state benefits for same-sex couples.

Bruce, however, defended Palin after the tweet started conversations on Monday, calling her "a decent woman and a friend to the community," reports HuffPo.

"When it comes to Sarah Palin's position on DADT, I have never asked her about it and she has never spoken to me about it -- but I assess her as a Conservative with Libertarian influence," Bruce wrote on her blog Tuesday.
