Andrew Shirvell, the former assistant state attorney general fired for antigay harassment against the University of Michigan student body president, had previously been warned about using state resources for antigay attacks on politicians.

According to the Associated Press, which cited AnnArbor.com, "A report compiled by the attorney general's office said Andrew Shirvell was warned last February after sending an e-mail to a former state representative and others that included a gay slur, said AnnArbor.com, citing the report that it obtained."

Two months after the warning, Shirvell started a blog that criticized gay student body president Chris Armstrong as a racist with a "radical homosexual agenda." The earlier e-mail was listed among eight reasons for the attorney's firing, the AP reports.

Shirvell was fired in November. Armstrong has not ruled out further legal action against him, according to his attorney, who has helped Armstrong petition to have Shirvell disbarred.
