Marcal Camero Tye was found brutally murdered along a stretch of Arkansas highway on Tuesday.

WREG-TV
reports on the murder, which is being investigated by law enforcement officials from Forrest City and St. Francis County. The news station identifies Tye as a "transgender female," but uses male pronouns to describe the victim.

A witness reported hearing two gunshots in the area, and a friend, Jennifer Bohannon, said Tye was last seen going home Monday night. Authorities said Tye's body appeared to have a head wound and evidence of being dragged by a vehicle.

According to WREG-TV, "Bohannon says Tye didn't hide the fact he was a transgender woman and she thinks he was picked up by someone 'high' on drugs and looking for sex, 'And when they brought him down here they probably figured out, you know, noticed that he was a 'dude' and probably took it from there and shot him and killed him.'"
