Five protesters from GetEqual were arrested Wednesday following a sit-in outside U.S. House speaker John Boehner's 8th Congressional District office in West Chester, Ohio.

After being denied access to the speaker, to whom they had intended to deliver a petition bearing the signatures of 33,233 citizens urging him not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act, the activists sat outside in the rain and began reading aloud names from the petition.

Sean Watkins, Morgan Bonney, Jesse Bonney, Liz Mills, and Karay Martin were arrested, charged with trespassing, and then released after being fingerprinted and photographed for mug shots. Their court date is scheduled for March 29.

According to GetEqual's eastern region field director, Dan Fotu, the fact that the activists were not allowed to enter Boehner's office "just weeks after the speaker announced 'this is your House, not my House' shows that his open door policy does not apply to the LGBT community."
