WWE Announcer Sorry for Homophobic Tweet
Days after World Wrestling Entertainment pledged to put an end to homophobic language on the air, longtime wrestling announcer Michael Cole used an antigay slur toward another commentator on Twitter.
Cole used the slur against Josh Matthews on Saturday. He has since deleted the tweet and apologized for "all who were offended," adding "it was obviously not meant to the way it was taken." Matthews had no public response as of Sunday morning.
The WWE told TMZ it would make sure Cole was included in antidiscrimination training being set up for the company by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
GLAAD's initial involvement with the WWE was launched after pro wrestler John Cena caused a stir with his antigay remarks targeted at Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and The Miz last month on an episode of WWE Raw.
