Giffords OK'd for Husband's Shuttle Launch
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has been cleared to attend her husband's space shuttle launch in Cape Canaveral, Florida on Friday.
The Arizona congresswoman was one of several people shot at close range at a public event at a Safeway grocery store in January. Giffords was shot in the head and has made a miraculous recovery in the months following the shooting.
Giffords's husband Mark Kelly told Katie Couric that doctors had given her permission to travel to Cape Canaveral, Fla., for the launch of Endeavor. Kelly is the commander of the shuttle mission.
Giffords has not been seen publicly since the shooting. She has spent the last several weeks relearning how to speak, walk, and take care of herself.
The congresswoman is well liked by gay rights activists for her stellar record on LGBT issues. It was a gay intern in her office, Daniel Hernandez, who helped save her life in the moments after she was shot.
