Antigay, Ultraconservative Heads to Senate

If you thought Nevada senator John Ensign was conservative, compared to the embattled former politician's replacement, Dean Heller, Ensign looks like Dennis Kucinich.

Nevada's Republican governor Brian Sandoval appointed Heller as the replacement for Ensign, who quit the Senate amid ethics charges. Heller, a former U.S. representative, is a Mormon who is firmly against gay marriage, doesn't support work protections for LGBT people, voted against renewable energy credits, and supports cutting funding for Planned Parenthood and National Public Radio. He also wants to repeal healthcare reform.

Heller will be forced to run for reelection in his position in 2012. Read more here.
