If you're out and proud, one of the last places that likely comes to mind to show it publicly is Afghanistan. But the Afghan Pajhwak news agency is reporting on a recent trend on the streets of Kabul -- rainbow flags flying high and adorning cars throughout the city.

According to The Guardian, the news agency sent a reporter out onto the streets to talk with drivers about declaring their support for gay rights proudly on their cars. Turns out, none of them had any idea what the rainbow stickers mean.

From the Guardian: "The rainbow stickers had first arrived on secondhand cars imported from Canada. Afghans had simply assumed that the colour combination was the latest fashion fad in the west, and duly adopted it."

According to report, in the days following the Pajhwak article, the stickers have been removed en masse. "One commentator even expressed the hope that the embarrassing incident would serve as cautionary tale, warning Afghans against their tendency to blindly follow fashions imported from elsewhere."
