President Barack Obama will attend two campaign fund-raisers in New York next week, one with Whoopi Goldberg and the other featuring high-profile gay donors.
An official from Obama's campaign confirmed the events, both of which are scheduled for June 23. The president, who held three fund-raisers in Miami this week, has been raising money since the April announcement of his reelection bid.
The Goldberg fund-raiser will be hosted by Sister Act, the Tony-nominated musical she produced. Tickets for the June 23 show will range from $250 to $10,000.
The other event is slated to be emceed by Neil Patrick Harris and will feature Rep. Patrick Murphy, chief sponsor of the "don't ask, don't tell" repeal legislation, and Joel Burns, a Fort Worth, Texas, City Council member and It Gets Better contributor.
Earlier this week first lady Michelle Obama attended a fund-raiser at the home of gay couple Michael S. Smith and James Costos in Los Angeles. Smith decorated the White House for the Obama administration, and Costos is an executive at HBO. The event, with 300 people in attendance, raised more than $1 million. Celebrities at the fund-raiser, with tickets ranging from $1,500 to $35,800, included Vanessa Williams, Drew Barrymore, Brian Grazer, Ryan Phillippe, and Ellen and Portia DeGeneres.
