Challenger Attacks Houston Mayor's "Homosexual Agenda"

The businessman challenging Houston mayor Annise Parker's reelection said the mayor was using her sexual orientation to promote "a homosexual agenda."

Dave Wilson sent a letter to Parker's supporters by obtaining contact information through her campaign finance reports, according to Think Progress. He said he understands that many receiving the letter condone Parker's "alternative lifestyle and agree with her promoting the homosexual agenda," but urged those who donated to her campaign out of "financial obligation" to their workplace to "search your soul and rethink your support."

Wilson said he has family members and friends who have been "ensnared and trapped in homosexual behavior," so he has been privy to "the incredible pain and sorrow it has brought to them and their families. He also warned that religious freedom will be stifled and "millions more will be trapped as the demand for legal and political approval for homosexual behavior increases," if a "homosexual agenda" is allowed to flourish.

Parker countered that she is being attacked solely for being a lesbian. Her message in her fund-raising letter sent out last month asked for donations to ensure that she secures reelection this fall.

Both letters from Parker and Wilson were sent leading up to June 30, the deadline to report fund-raising results for the first quarter of the year.
