Navy Officer Censured in Antigay Hazing Incident
A Navy commander who dubbed a new officer "fagmeister" and "gay boy" for his call sign has been censured for antigay hazing, UPI reports.
Cmdr. Liam Bruen, who retired in May only days after superiors recommended he be removed from his position at Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach, Va., was censured in the incident involving Ensign Steve Crowston, who later filed a complaint regarding the matter.
According to UPI, Navy secretary Ray Mabus found that Bruen "failed to exercise appropriate leadership and demonstrated a profound lack of judgment." (Read the report here.)
