Antigay Group Sends Misleading Absentee Ballots in Wis. Recall Election
A Wisconsin antigay group with ties to the Family Research Council is accused of sending misleading absentee ballot applications to voters in the state's recall election next week, The Minnesota Independent reports.
In conjunction with Americans for Prosperity, the group Wisconsin Family Action, which in the past has fought in court against the state's domestic-partnership registry, sent out absentee ballots to two districts in the recall election of Republican lawmakers with a printed return deadline of August 11 -- two days after the actual state deadline.
The return address on the forms is an "application processing center" that belongs to Wisconsin Family Action. The state director of Americans for Prosperity told reporters Monday that the inaccurate information was a typo, though two voters who received the applications have since filed complaints with the state's Government Accountability Board.
