Netherlands: 3 Registrars Who Oppose Gay Marriage Won't Retain Their Jobs
The city of Groningen in the Netherlands will not renew the contracts of three registrars who have refused to officiate at weddings for same-sex couples, DutchNews reports.
Though the Groningen City Council cannot fire the civil servants, it can choose not to renew their contracts when they expire in 2014.
According to the Dutch LGBT group COC Nederland, 58 local councils in the country employ more than 100 registrars who have refused to perform such weddings on religious grounds.
