Jon Stewart has a theory that long hair makes women more conservative -- and therefore "Rachel Maddow is 10 scissorless weeks from a Fox News contract!"

On Thursday's edition of The Daily Show, Stewart skewered Fox host Megyn Kelly for having flip-flopped on mandated employee benefits -- whereas she once denounced such "entitlements," she's now defending the three-month maternity leave she just completed. She cites the federal Family and Medical Leave Act, which requires employers to offer the time off, and even suggests the United States is in the "dark ages" because it mandates only unpaid leave, not paid.

Stewart showed clips of Kelly's varying positions on mandated benefits and attributed the change to her new, shorter haircut. "When you cut your hair, it saps your conservative strength," he said. "That means Rachel Maddow is 10 scissorless weeks from a Fox News contract!" Accompanying his comment was a photo of Maddow with long blond hair superimposed.

Trudy Ring is The Advocate’s senior politics editor and copy chief. She has been a reporter and editor for daily newspapers and LGBTQ+ weeklies/monthlies, trade magazines, and reference books. She is a political junkie who thinks even the wonkiest details are fascinating, and she always loves to see political candidates who are groundbreaking in some way. She enjoys writing about other topics as well, including religion (she’s interested in what people believe and why), literature, theater, and film. Trudy is a proud “old movie weirdo” and loves the Hollywood films of the 1930s and ’40s above all others. Other interests include classic rock music (Bruce Springsteen rules!) and history. Oh, and she was a Jeopardy! contestant back in 1998 and won two games. Not up there with Amy Schneider, but Trudy still takes pride in this achievement.
