Rising star Tom Hardy says he has never put his penis in a man and he was quoted out of context in a 2008 interview with Attitude magazine that started the rumor, according to a candid new profile in Marie Claire.

Last yearThe Daily Mailreported that Hardy said he's had sexual relations with men, but in the October issue of Marie Claire (not yet online but posted courtesy of blogger Charlidos) Hardy says he doesn't regret anything he's ever said, but adds, "It's just a shame things are misconstrued and I don't get the opportunity to explain."

Hardy then clarifies. "I have never put my penis in a man," he tells Marie Claire. "I've never had a cock in my arse, and I have no fucking desire for it. If that's what you like, cool. But it doesn't do it for me."

Hardy, who is engaged to British actress Charlotte Riley, is on the verge of major stardom, following his attention-grabbing role in 2010's Inception. His acclaimed new film, Warrior, is currently in theaters and a spy thriller, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, has been well-received on the festival circuit and will be released in December. Among several films scheduled for release in 2012 are a starring turn in Mad Max 4 and a role as the villainous Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.
