What Was That About? Twitter Trend Shocks Lesbians
#HowToMakeADykeHappy made it onto Twitter's list of highest trended topics on Wednesday. And whether the topic was meant as humorous and lesbian-friendly or hostile and derogatory (as were some of the statements it generated) remains unknown.
The irony is it continues to be a hot topic because of backlash, as well as because twitterers who are refusing to participate are doing so just by putting the hash tag in front of the words.
One pro-lesbian twitterer said: "#HowToMakeADykeHappy <-i am sure there are a lot of offended ppl behind this... I WILL NOT PARTICIPATE!"
Another joked, "If you're looking for #HowToMakeADykeHappy, I'd recommend first not using a bigoted slur to describe her."
Other twitterers offered their own offensive take on the hash tag.
"#HowToMakeADykeHappy get her some rogaine for her chin so she can grow a beard like Rick Ross."
"#HowToMakeADykeHappy get a little rough. they're like guys, why not?"
What do you think about the hash tag? Inherently offensive? Or abused by homophobic tweets? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
