Catholic Official Who Linked Gays to Devil Resigns

Daniel Avila, who worked on policy and research for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, resigned -- possibly under pressure -- after he wrote a newspaper column that linked same-sex behavior to Satan.

Avila's recent column in The Pilot, the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of Boston, was roundly condemned. The paper later removed the column and apologized for it; Avila later wrote in The Pilot that his views don't represent those of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. A spokeswoman for the group said Avila offered to step down this week and the offer was accepted Friday. Read more here.
