A University of Texas San Antonio student says she was pulled into a van and assaulted by two men over the weekend because she's gay.

Kristen Cooper told police she was at a Halloween party over the weekend, and while she was waiting for a ride, two men from the party punched her, dragged her into their vehicle and drove off while continuing to punch her.

"It was bad, it hurt really bad, it was like full fist and I tried to fight them off, but I couldn't," Cooper told local KENS5.com.

"I'm trying really hard not to cry, but nothing like this should happen to anybody," said Cooper. "They [the doctors] said I have a concussion, contusion and whiplash."

Cooper said the men knew she was a lesbian and that during the assault they used antigay slurs.

San Antonio Police are investigating the incident as an assault, but haven't made any announcement about the hate crime aspect.
