HIV-Positive Man Arrested for Having Unprotected Sex
A Raleigh, N.C., man has been charged with a public health violation for allegedly having unprotected sex and not revealing to his partner that he has HIV, reports local station WTVD 11.
If convicted, John Conway Hart, 27, could face up to four months in jail and be subjected to a medical quarantine.
While she declined to comment specifically on this case, Wake County health director Sue Lynn Ledford said she preferred education to prosecution. "This is an extreme last measure for us, an extreme last measure for us," she explained. "This is the very last thing that we would look to do and we would, we would try everything else first."
A sexual partner of Hart's went to police after finding out after the fact about Hart's HIV status.
